China to help stabilize the world: Aziz

SHANGHAI - Former prime minister of Pakistan Shaukat Aziz praised China's important and responsible role in stabilizing both global and regional political and financial issues.

With China becoming an economic superpower, the world hopes China will take a positive role in global leadership on economic, diplomatic, social and security issues, Shaukat Aziz said on Saturday while attending the annual Shanghai Forum at Fudan University.

"Global leadership not only means influence or power, it also means responsibilities. China has chosen to work as a responsible country, while promoting the stability and harmonious development of international relations both regional and global," Aziz said, noting that Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to Seoul showed the country actively leading efforts for global peace, which is "very important to Asia's development".
