New measures to curb number of lawyers

The municipal bureau of justice has introduced measures to restrict the number of new lawyers in the city and improve standards in the profession.

Beijing has 21,549 lawyers and has witnessed an annual increase of more than 2,000 in recent years, according to Ma Kai, press officer with the municipal bureau of justice

"It is hard to coordinate such a mass of lawyers. We also need to improve the quality of some of the law firms," Ma said.
