Parents sue for driving son to suicide

By Zhang Zixuan | China Daily | Updated: 2010-05-25 07:57

An 18-year-old migrant worker committed suicide because he couldn't afford the compensation for a 76-year-old woman he injured riding his motorbike.

However, the parents of the young motorcyclist Liao Zhenping sued the son of the woman, Wang Guiying, alleging his illegal conduct forced Liao to take his own life, and demanded more than 760,000 yuan in compensation.

The amount includes 530,000 yuan in compensation for the death itself, 20,000 yuan for funeral expenses, an appraisal fee of 10,000 yuan, and 200,000 yuan for emotional damages.
