Man hiding in water pipe detained by police after standoff

A man who hid in a pipe under a well for more than five days in Tongzhou district, and claimed he was on the run from the police, will undergo a thorough psychological examination now he is finally in police custody.

The man, calling himself Li Qin'gang, claimed he had committed a crime in Heilongjiang province, but police said that as yet, they had not confirmed this and were investigating the matter further.

Li told police he had made some mistakes in Heilongjiang and that he had been on the run for two months. He also kept repeating the words "death penalty" to police.
