Police: Trio sent 230m dodgy text messages

By Zhang Yan | China Daily | Updated: 2010-05-17 08:01

Three men who allegedly sent 230 million text messages in a scam that generated up to 7 million yuan in illicit profits were arrested, according to the Beijing police.

The authorities declined to identify the suspects.

In January, the men allegedly purchased automated message-sending devices, cellular telephones and mobile phone cards in a market near Madian, Haidian district, and set up the devices in a rented house.
