Fans-for-sale make blogs a macro cheat

By Liu Yujie | China Daily | Updated: 2010-05-13 07:54

With Twitter-like microblogs becoming more and more popular in China, followers are now tradable commodities - priced at 0.1 yuan each on e-commerce websites.

Followers of microblogs on Sina and Sohu and invitation codes for Tencent's microblog are now available for sale on Taobao, the largest online consumer-to-consumer trading platform in China.

With microblogs, the more fans a blogger has, the more influential he or she will become. Fans are updated with the blogger's messages either on cell phones or in their own microblog pages immediately after the blogger posts them.
