More say for film censors in provinces

By Liu Wei | China Daily | Updated: 2010-05-12 07:52

BEIJING - Provincial censorship branches will be able to process script submissions and preliminarily censor all completed films in local studios, under new regulations by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT).

Previously, film producers had to send drafts of scripts to the country's top film regulator in Beijing to start filming. There were six provinces that could preliminarily censor completed films and these applied to State-run studios.

Under the new rules, a number of provinces and cities including Jilin, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Shaanxi, Hubei and Beijing also have more rights on the final say for certain genres of films.
