The State Council adopted the General Guidelines for Mid- and Long-Term Educational Reform and Development on May 6 after soliciting public opinions on the document twice. The document will form the base on which the government will build its education policies.
Needed next are specific road maps to reach the destinations mentioned in the document. There is a saying, rather clichd, in Chinese, the prospect is bright, but the road ahead is bumpy, which can be used to describe the future of education.
The document lists inculcating students with moral integrity and practical capability as a major task of education, because such people are needed for the nation's prosperity and progress.
