Law prof denies 60k-yuan trickery

You Shaohua, a law professor at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), appeared in Dongcheng court on Wednesday accused of making illegal income by allegedly duping a man who wanted to have a controversial article published in the national media.

Prosecutors said You illegally took 60,000 yuan from Xie Wenhao, a laid-off worker who had been with a foreign trade corporation in Fujian province.

Xie was desperate to let people know about what he claimed was the company's illegal sale of national assets and thought You could arrange to have an article printed in the Democracy and Legal System newspaper based in Putian, Fujian province.
