Punishments for errant officers made public for the first time

BEIJING - Detailed punishments for police misbehavior or malpractice, such as mistreating detainees, are fleshed out in the country's first police discipline regulation made public late on Tuesday.

The regulation, which will take effect on June 1, comes amid a rising number of unnatural deaths among inmates in police custody and the arrest of dozens of police officers in the southwestern Chongqing municipality for involvement in organized crime.
