Regulations will soon be introduced to ensure central air conditioning systems in the city are kept clean.

The draft laws are aimed at improving air quality inside public buildings, many of which have not cleaned their central air conditioners for more than 20 years, leading to contamination of the ventilation systems, the Beijing government said .

Draft regulations published on the website of the Legal Affairs Office of the government, said building owners who fail inspections of their air conditioning face fines of up to 30,000 yuan.
