Donewald rumored as new national coach

China Daily | Updated: 2010-04-24 06:51

BEIJING - Bob Donewald Jr, the current head coach of the Shanghai Sharks with the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), has emerged as the most likely candidate to fill the inexperienced shoes of Guo Shiqiang as the top man for China's national basketball team.

The popular coach met last Thursday with top officials at the State General Administration of Sport and has been in closed-door negotiations with the CBA for some time, according to the Yangtse Evening Post.

If Donewald Jr indeed is the new national men's head coach, he has little time to get acquainted with the team. The national team will gather next month to prepare for the August's World Championship in Turkey.
