Three to be charged over 'Sprite poisoning'

Prosecutors are about to charge three people in connection with a notorious mercury poisoning case that centered around a can of Sprite drink, saying the high-profile incident was nothing more than a love affair gone wrong.

Local media reported on Wednesday that Xicheng district prosecutors were on the verge of charging Liu Xiaojing and Gao Xingyuan with attempted murder.

A third person, 21-year-old Ma Sai, the victim of the poisoning who came close to losing his life in the incident, is set to be charged with damaging Sprite's business and reputation after he allegedly lied to investigators.
