Former minister makes statement

Indian lawmaker Shashi Tharoor, who quit as the junior foreign minister on Sunday following allegations of abuse of office, on Tuesday issued a statement in Parliament to explain the background of his resignation. He invited Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to probe all charges against him. Tharoor, who contested an election for the first time as a ruling Congress party candidate in 2009, had entered politics after a long stint at the United Nations (UN).
