Making a musical statement

The First China International Violin Making Competition, the first of its kind in Asia, will be held in Beijing from May 5 to 17.
Organized by China Musical Instruments Association and China Central Conservatory of Music, the competition has accepted 280 instruments from 184 makers in 11 countries and regions.
"We have referred to the statutes of major competitions in the world and will try to make the China International Violin Making Competition a world-standard event," says Wang Cizhao, president of the organizing committee of the competition, who is also president of Central Conservatory of Music.
