First committee established to oversee citywide demolitions

The first coordination committee to offer citywide comprehensive supervision over demolitions has been founded in Beijing to smooth the way for projects in 2010.

The coordination committee on housing and urban-rural development, founded on April 15, is headed by Beijing's vice-mayor Chen Gang. It aims to form a new demolition procedure and upgrade the compensation policy in Beijing.

The committee will take part in all procedures regarding demolitions, such as coordination, supervision, as well as offering guidance to speed up delayed projects and crack down on illegal activity.
