By ZHENG CAIXIONG | China Daily | Updated: 2010-04-15 08:19

GUANGZHOU - A newborn baby whose neck may have been cut by his mother at birth is in critical condition at a hospital in the Sanshui district of Foshan in South China's Guangdong province.

The baby boy, who was found dumped in a trash can when he was only a few hours old, remains dependent on a respirator to breathe.

"The baby is not yet out of danger, despite a successful operation that lasted for more than two hours," a doctor, surnamed Li, from the Sanshui district people's hospital, said on Wednesday.
