By Lu Chang | China Daily | Updated: 2010-04-12 08:21

The government has started to hand out free trash bins and bags as incentives to residents to sort their garbage after a waste classification and reduction scheme was launched in 600 residential communities in Beijing.

"Waste separator receptacles and waste bags were given to the residents free of charge and thousands of workers were hired to demonstrate to residents how to separate the garbage," said Wang Qingwen, an official of the municipal commission of urban administration and environment, on Sunday.

In Maizidian neighborhood, almost 3,000 families have already received more than 10,000 dustbins and nearly 330,000 trash bags.
