Yankees best-paid team

LONDON - The New York Yankees, who won their 27th World Series last year, are the best paid team in global sport, according to a report to be published on Friday.

The report, which calculates salaries in pounds sterling, said the average annual pay of a player with the Yankees was 4,674,644 pounds ($6.99m) a year, or 89,897 pounds a week.

European soccer teams Real Madrid, Barcelona and Chelsea respectively are the next highest paid teams followed by six National Basketball Association sides, according to the report from the www.sportingintelligence.com website.
