Puppet show

In the modern puppet show Monkey King Ventures out into the East Sea, the Monkey King dives into the dragon's palace in the East Sea to borrow the golden cudgel.

He finds that the throne of the dragon's palace has been usurped by a cuttlefish and the undersea world is left polluted by him.

The Monkey King fights the cuttlefish and makes the sea pure and calm once again.

Exhibits

San Guo relics

An exhibition, Great Romance of the Three Kingdoms displays relics excavated from Cao Cao's tomb of the Three Kingdoms (AD 220-280).

The more than 120 articles on view represent the history of the Three Kingdoms period as embodied in its politics, economy, military and culture.

Among the exhibits is a jade suit of Cao Cao's father, Cao Song, made with 2,464 jade pieces stitched together with silver thread.

After Beijing, the exhibition will move to Henan, the key battlefield of the Three Kingdoms period, before visiting Taiwan, and Sichuan province.

Down memory lane

What's on

In his recent series Hutong Play, print artist Huang Kai uses the line techniques of comic paintings popular in early 20th century China to narrate the story of the 1980s.

Viewers will find familiar scenes, such as school boys engaged in a game, typical hutong neighborhoods and elderly folks performing Peking Opera, in his works.

Michael Schiefel

Berlin jazz crooner Michael Schiefel released 12 albums during the past decade. He brings his renowned live show to Yugong Yishan.

Schiefel is a riveting, hugely talented singer on the thriving Berlin jazz scene. In solo and group formats, his albums have each won more praise than the preceding ones. He augments his distinctive, virtuoso voice with experimental loops and other effects to achieve extraordinary expressions of passion, joy and alienation.

"This Is Us" Backstreet Boys world tour stops in Beijing

The Backstreet Boys are back. Their first stop in China will feature a concert March 17 in Beijing. Qigong club

Qigong is an internal Chinese meditative practice that uses slow, graceful movements and controlled breathing techniques to promote the circulation of qi within the human body and enhance a practitioner's overall health.

There are also many forms of qigong that are done with little or no movement at all, in standing, sitting and supine positions; likewise, not all forms of qigong use controlled breathing techniques.

In this class, there are no strict rules, no strict master nor attendance requirements. The aim of the class is to give people flexibility and the opportunity to experience and practice qigong on their own terms in an effort to make the practice more accessible.

Cuandixia ancient village day trip
