Three top private middle schools in Haidian district have increased their tuition fees after a five-year ban on raising fees was lifted.
Beida Resources Middle School, Shida Middle School and Beijing Haidian Foreign Language Shi Yan School have been authorized by the municipal price regulators to increase their fees by 2,000 yuan to 6,000 yuan per year.
"The government forbade public and private schools from raising tuition fees over the last five years, but they only gave financial support to the public ones, so we had a difficult time," said Zhang Guoxi, principal of Beijing Haidian Foreign Language Shi Yan School.
