Cat protection group scratching for funds

By Wang Wen | China Daily | Updated: 2010-03-09 07:51

An organization that has rescued more than 10,000 stray cats over the past nine years is now fighting for its own survival.

On its website, www.luckycats.net, the group last week appealed for donations to help pay for the apartment it uses to house its feline friends.

The Luckcats was established by 10 young women in January 2001. The group rented a 60 sq m apartment, at a cost of 38,000 yuan per year, in the Huilongguan community in Changping district in 2007. The organization was down to its last 3,000 yuan by the end of February. The 35,000 rent balance is due in April.
