Public campaign could shift the attitudes of society

Comment on "Social rebuilding will be a long process" (Feb 10, China Daily).

Zhu Yuan has written a perceptive and insightful column. I agree with just about everything he says, especially that it would take some time and patience to build civil society in China. The reason why it will take some time is obvious: the country's huge population of 1.3 billion. It's relatively easy to talk, like many commentators, about building civil society in East European countries, because they have relatively small populations with a strong sense of identity and culture.
