Delivering health services

China Daily | Updated: 2010-03-03 07:36

The National Population and Family Planning Commission launched a project to support overall reproduction services in Sichuan earthquake-hit areas on July 30, 2008.

The central government has pumped 100 million yuan ($14 million) into special funds for family planning services for families whose children were killed or disabled in the disaster. Couples who want to conceive are offered free psychological consultations and health examinations, while women who struggle to become pregnant can receive free medical treatment.

Population and family planning officers conduct face-to-face visits with the pregnant women to check on their health conditions and ensure safe delivery. They also provide new mothers with guidance on parenting and with things such as feeding bottles and milk powder.
