'Political ploy'

Beijing - Nuclear weapons formed the core defense strategy for the US and denuclearization was just a "political slogan" used by the Obama administration, Chinese defense experts said on Monday.

They were responding to a report in the New York Times which said the US president's new nuclear strategy will be contained in a nearly complete document called the Nuclear Posture Review, which will steer the US toward more non-nuclear defenses.

The nuclear weapons reduction strategy was just a "political slogan" by the Obama administration, said Rear-Admiral Yang Yi of the University of National Defense.
