Retailers who rented stalls in local temple fairs to sell food or merchandise have complained of difficulties in making money, despite the four million visitors that flooded into Beijing's most celebrated traditional outdoor event.
Those who rented stalls in Ditan Park, a prominent Beijing location for annual temple fairs, said the high rental fees cut profits down to almost nothing, Beijing News reported.
A retailer in his 20s surnamed Wang spent 15,780 yuan to rent a stall in Ditan to sell tiger puppets, hats and masks over the week-long period. In order to hit a profit, Wang calculated he needed to sell 5,000 yuan of goods daily - he managed 1,000 yuan per day.
