Yemen ceasefire praised

China Daily | Updated: 2010-02-20 07:46

UNITED NATIONS: A senior UN official welcomed the ceasefire in Yemen, saying the organization's development agency "will work with all parties in support of recovery and development of the region affected by the conflict."

Helen Clark, the administrator of the UN Development Program, on Thursday night "expressed her concern about the humanitarian situation in the affected region in northern Yemen, especially for some 250,000 persons displaced by the conflict," a statement said.

The government of Yemen had called the ceasefire in the conflict in the north part of the country with the Houthi rebels to coincide with the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
