Corrupt official gets death

Sun Shanwu, former vice chairman of Henan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve for accepting bribes yesterday.

Sun, 64, was convicted of taking more than 9.1 million yuan ($1.33 million) in bribes while serving as a senior political advisor and the Party chief of Luoyang, Henan province, according to the Weifang Intermediate People's Court, Shandong province, where he stood trial.
