Lighters banned from temple fair

With less than a week to go before Spring Festival, police have announced that lighters will be outlawed at the city's biggest temple fair in an effort to ensure public safety.

The prohibition is necessary to protect the ancient architecture in Ditan Park when it hosts its popular seven-day fair, Beijing police said.

It is the first time such a ban has been introduced in the park during Spring Festival.
