Official under probe

An official in Junlian county who caused a traffic accident in which 12 people were injured is being investigated by local authorities, Beijing Times reported yesterday.

Nie Duoyao, deputy Party chief of Xunsi town, which is under the administration of Junlian county, was accused of being responsible for serial crashes on Feb 6. He told the police that he was trying to avoid a pedestrian who suddenly appeared in front of his car and lost control of his vehicle, which subsequently crashed into other cars, bikes and pedestrians.
