Cataract sufferers get second sight this year

The city might build several medical centers specializing in cataracts by the end of this year, the director of the cataract center in Tongren Hospital said yesterday.

Zhu Siquan, director of the center, said they will be mainly built in rural areas of the city, such as Yanqing county and Mentougou district.

Tongren Hospital, known as a key hospital in Beijing for eye disease, sent 33 physicians to provide free medical checks and treatment to cataract sufferers in Yanqing county on Tuesday. Five low-income residents received free surgery.
