America should shed Cold War mentality
Some recent developments such as the controversy over Google's threat to withdraw its Chinese services and the US arms sale to Taiwan have cast a shadow over the Sino-US relations. The US government should shed its Cold War mentality to maintain friendly relations with China, says an article on Xinhua Net. Excerpts:
The US has already dealt a couple blows to Sino-US relations this year. After the Google incident and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's speech on Internet freedom, came the US announcement to sell arms to Taiwan. Despite Beijing's repeated protests, the Barack Obama administration went ahead with its arms-sale proposal to US Congress.
Beijing-Washington relations are not only connected with the lives of the peoples on the two sides, but also directly relate to world peace. Hence, the relationship has to be handled with concern and care. But what the US government has done reminds one of the Cold War days.
