Theatrical ballet

What's on

The Hamburg Ballet from Germany will delight Beijing ballet fans with The Lady of the Camellias. The 3-act ballet version of the novel by Alexandre Dumas (the younger) was adapted by John Neumeier and made its debut in 1978. The choreography is both delicate and dynamic, conveying the essence of the roles from both a visual and spiritual perspective. The use of white tones for the stage setting helps present the contrast of reality and imagination.

Neumeier, artistic director of the ballet troupe since 1973, is known for successful adaptations of well-known novels to theatrical ballets, that blend the elements of classical and modern dance as well as symphonic works.

Out & About

Yanqing Great Wall

What's on

Now that spring is on its way, it is time to head towards the hills. And the Great Wall remains a perennial favorite of hikers.

Most of this stretch of the Great Wall was constructed early in the Ming Dynasty. It is quite far away from Beijing city and fairly difficult to get to, therefore seldom visited. The views from different heights make the rather long journey worth the effort.

Meet at Lido Starbucks (north-east gate of Lido Holiday Inn, 6 Jiangtailu, Chaoyang district) for bus transportation. Visit www.beijinghikers.com for reservation and more information.
