Peacekeepers to exit

Chad has told the United Nations peacekeeping mission to withdraw its soldiers and wants a clear timetable for the world body's troops and civilians to leave the country, diplomats said yesterday.

A high-level UN mission is in Chad for talks but the diplomats said there is no scope for re-negotiating the UN mission's mandate, which runs out in March. It is not immediately clear how long the withdrawal will take.
