Personal plane to reach consumers in 2011

China Daily | Updated: 2010-01-27 07:59

LOS ANGELES: A former US Air Force pilot turned entrepreneur hopes to stimulate recreational flying with a "personal-sized" propeller plane that serves the same mass market as motorbikes, jetskis and powerboats.

By allowing amateur pilots to picnic at an isolated lake or enjoy aerial views, Kirk Hawkins hopes to appeal to affluent thrill seekers, he said after founding his company. His innovation takes advantage of recent laws that allow certification of about 100 existing and new superlight aircraft.
