Jailed for poisoning water

A chemical company was fined 1 million yuan ($146,400) and five people were sentenced to jail for discharging industrial waste into a water source and causing drinking water contamination in Huai'an, Jiangsu province, the Yangtse Evening News reported.

The People's Court in Hongze county said on Friday that eight people in the Hongze Rihui Adjuvant Co. Ltd. were held responsible for the water contamination. They were given jail terms ranging from nine months to 29 months. Three had their sentences suspended with a probationary period.
