As a professional training body, Shanghai Zhangjiang Institute for Innovation has the ambitious aim of providing internationally skilled individuals, not just for Shanghai but also for the whole of the country. It is committed to not only cultivating raw talents, but also to creating a sustainable resource of skilled and highly trained individuals.

Established by the Shanghai Zhangjiang (Group) Co Ltd in October 2006 in the Zhangjiang Hi-tech Park, one of China's most successful hi-tech zones, the institute provides post-degree vocational training and has also set up a mechanism for the exchange of international training resources and business projects.

In order to establish an international exchange platform for the cultivation of skilled individuals, it has been cooperating with a number of domestic institutions and universities, including the prestigious Shanghai Jiao Tong University. It is also working with a number of overseas educational bodies, notably the Massachusetts Technology Center, the University of Massachusetts, Stanford University, Boston University, Nanyang Technological University, Towson University, the China Europe International Business School and Canada's York University.
