Websites shut down

A total of 38 websites were shut down, and eight suspects arrested since Dec 8 last year in Shanghai police's latest crackdown on pornographic contents on the Internet and mobile phones, Qu Weifang, deputy chief of information security division with Shanghai Public Security Bureau, said yesterday.

A crack down on online pornographic content has been launched every year since 2004 under instructions from the Ministry of Public Security. The latest one concentrates more on illegal content on mobile phones, according to Qu.
