Malawi win as Nations Cup shocks go on

China Daily | Updated: 2010-01-13 08:11

LUANDA: Malawi recorded their first win at an African Nations Cup finals when they stunned Algeria 3-0 on Monday as the tournament in Angola continued to throw up shock results on its second day.

Malawi's victory over the World Cup qualifiers in Luanda was followed by a similarly surprising showing from Burkina Faso, who held pre-tournament favorites Cote d'Ivoire to a goalless draw in Cabinda.

Togo were officially disqualified after the scheduled kickoff time of their Group B match with Ghana, which did not take place because of the departure of the Togolese from the tournament about 24 hours earlier.
