Natural disasters took heavy toll last year

Natural disasters left 1,528 people dead or missing in the country last year, and caused direct economic losses of more than 252 billion yuan ($37 billion), the Ministry of Civil Affairs said yesterday.
More than 90 percent of the deaths and missing were caused by floods and hailstorms, the ministry said in a statement.
