The truth in black and white

If Taiwanese playwright/director Stan Lai's work The Village tells the history of Taiwan in the past 60 years, his other recent play Light Years depicts social changes on the Chinese mainland since the start of reform and opening-up in 1978.
"But both plays have nothing to do with politics. They are about nostalgia and certain unique collective memories of Chinese people on the two sides of the Straits," says Lai.
The seven-scene play Light Years is presented through a 9-inch black-and-white TV set whose life story unfolds on stage.
