Official challenges government move to relocate crematorium

By Wang Ru | China Daily | Updated: 2010-01-12 07:50

A funeral expert has shed doubt on the government's reasoning behind its plan to relocate the city's largest crematorium.

The relocation was intended to free up land around Baobaoshan crematorium in Shijingshan, improve the urban environment and ease traffic pressure during annual festivals like Tomb Sweeping Day, according to the Beijing commission of development and reform.

However, Huang Qiaoquan, director of the policy research office at the Beijing funeral supervision department, questioned the motives.
