Capital move nixed

Prime Minister Chung Un-chan announced yesterday the government would scrap a controversial project to relocate part of the government out of the capital of Seoul, saying it would cause inefficiency in state affairs and waste taxpayer money.

The project has been a hot-button issue in ROK politics for months, with conservative President Lee Myung-bak seeking to revise his liberal predecessor's plan to move more than half of 15 government ministries to a yet-to-be-built city in central ROK .
