A classic retold

Tianjin People's Art Theater presents the modern drama Wilderness. This is a classical work written by playwright Cao Yu (1910-96). The story takes place in northern China's countryside in the 1930s and is about the revenge of a young man on a local tyrant. Director Wang Yansong graduated in 1982 from Shanghai Theater Academy and has written musicals and modern dramas.

Dance from Spain

The Spanish Valencia Dancing Troupe will wow Beijing audiences with its passionate performances. The choreography of the first part is inspired by life and nature, with elements of sunrise, the Earth, the air and humanity. A Spanish folk dance accompanied by percussion instruments follows. The performance ends with a festive flamenco dance.

About everyday life

A group show by Li Ming, Lin Tianmiao and Wang Wei, entitled Just Around the Corner, features the ordinary lives of hutong neighbors. Exhibits include oil paintings, installations and video works, depicting the morning market, chatting women, old trees and old objects.

Abstract paintings

In her series Black Diamonds, Australian artist Dawn Csutoros creates abstract images of the sky, the nature and the universe. Her inspiration comes from coal, which brings us light, energy and warmth. To the artist the blackness of the coal represents a symphony of color and light. Born in 1960, Csutoros has exhibited nationally and internationally.

Tap dance workshop

Get yourself a pair of tap dancing shoes and get started on the way to becoming a modern-day Ginger Rogers or Fred Astaire. Jessica Cross teaches beginners the basics of tap dancing. The eight-week workshop, starting Jan 11, is on every Monday evening.

Acupuncturist Dr Sylvie Hu, a long time practitioner and member of the European Traditional Medicine Association, presents a lecture series. These topics will be presented in nine sessions, each lasting two hours.
