Okinawa options reviewed

Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirofumi Hirano concluded a three-day trip to Okinawa yesterday by viewing potential relocation sites for the US Marine Corps' Futemma Air Station by air.

The two locations Hirano scouted were Ie island, which lies a few kilometers off the Motobu Peninsula of mainland Okinawa and has a population of just over 5,000 inhabitants, and Shimoji island which comprises the Miyako Islands, a part of the greater Ryukyu Island region.
