Scouting US base locations

Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirofumi Hirano arrived in Okinawa on Friday afternoon for a three-day visit aimed at advancing the thorny issue of relocating the U.S. Marine Corps' Futemma Air Station.

Hirano, as well as visiting the Futemma installation, will survey potential relocation sites, one of which is a small island called Shimoji, which comprises the Miyako Islands, a part of the greater Ryukyu Island region.
