UK has no moral right to criticize Shaikh sentence
The British media have had a field day in claiming moral superiority and, at the same time, demonizing China over the execution of UK passport holder and convicted drug trafficker Akmal Shaikh. Since the British have taken it upon themselves to make negative judgments about China's criminal justice system, the Chinese people need to know that, although the UK has not retained the death sentence, it jails more people than any other European nation.
In fact, the number of prison sentences has risen under the leadership of the Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who was "appalled" by Shaikh's execution, and his predecessor, Tony Blair.
In Brown's Britain, you can go to jail for doing something that are not even regarded as crimes in China, such as selling a gray squirrel, trans-shipping unlicensed fish, smoking in a public place, disobeying a health and safety inspector and even for not obtaining a license for a church concert.
