Getting a publishing license

China Daily | Updated: 2010-01-07 07:51

Companies, institutes and individuals must have a license before they can publish periodicals and newspapers in China.

Applicants for press licenses must first be affiliated with a supervising department, including administrative and public service units at or above provincial departments.

The backing of someone with political clout is also usually needed to speak on behalf of companies or individuals to highlight an applicant's qualifications to run a publication.
