Chemicals used to clear streets

By Meng Jing | China Daily | Updated: 2010-01-06 07:51

Almost 30,000 tons of snow-melting chemicals were poured on to roads since Monday to help clear a path for the city's four million cars.

The municipal administration committee said it had used 29,471 tons of snow-melt agent and that the amount would increase with the continuation of road clearing work.

The city's government has devised a standard regarding the environmentally friendly use of snow-melt agent, but some experts remain concerned about the impact on the environment.
