Official frowns on scanners

A German privacy protector warned officials yesterday not to rush into the installation of body scanners at airports.

"So far, I haven't seen a machine that protects personal rights," Germany's data protection commissioner Peter Schaar said. The scanners had made some improvements and no naked images would show on monitors, but these were not enough, he said.
